Over 40,000 celebrate rural life at Edenbridge & Oxted Show

Over 40,000 people packed out the Edenbridge & Oxted Show to share in a celebration of the country way of life.

Visitors over the bank holiday Sunday and Monday were treated to an array of shows and attractions from farm machinery to gun dog displays, the Devils Horsemen, dancing sheep and the grand parade of cattle.

Tandridge Buzz was at the Show and will bring you a series of special reports over the coming few days — starting with our intreview with Show chairman Paul Turney.

“The Edenbdirgde and Oxted agricultural Show is all about celebrating the country way of life and we have been doing that since 1837,” said Turney.

“The highlight has been seeing so many people here happily celebrating and enjoying the Show.

“I think we have topped 40,000 over the two days.”

The Edenbridge and Oxted Show is a charity with the majority of revenue ploughed back into putting on next year’s show.

The surplus is donated to a number of agricultural charities.

Tandridge Buzz will be publishing a series of videos and photos from the event over the coming days.

UK’s first Chinese car makes debut at E&O Show

UK’s first Chinese car makes debut at E&O Show

The first Chinese built car to be available in Britain will make its debut appearance at the Edenbridge & Oxted Show.

The Show president will make the official unveiling of the 4-wheel drive pick-up truck from the Great Wall motor company — called the Steed — on behalf of dealership Kinghams of Croydon at its stand.

The wraps will also be taken off a second new car to the UK market — the Korando from Korean based company Ssang Yong. It is dubbed a “sports utility vehicle” in a similar mould to the Nissan Qashqai.

“These are two cars that have effectively not been seen in Britain,” said Keith Kingham.

“We are very excited and very proud to be the first English dealership for the Great Wall.”

The cars ( £13,995 + VAT for the Steed and £16,995 + VAT for the Korando) will be available to order over the weekend with deliveries set for late September or early October.

Kingham is a big fan of the Edenbridge & Oxted Show. “It is a fun few days and we always have a good time.

“Our franchises suit the country market so it is a really good fit.”

The Show also features a large vintage and classic car section for enthusiasts.

Hobby horse race ‘just one of many’ kids activities at Edenbridge & Oxted Show

Kids are invited to take part in a special hobby horse race at the Edenbridge & Oxted Show at the weekend.

The Show, which runs from Sunday 28 to Monday 29 August, will play host the race for children up to the age of 12 on Sunday at 12.15pm at the Country Sports section.

There will be prizes for the winner and best fancy dress.

“You don’t even need to bring your own horse,” said Show chairman Paul Turney. “It will be great fun for the children and is just one of the many activities that they can take part in.”

Children can also take advantage of cooking lessons with a chef where they will be taught how to make dishes from scratch. “This activity provides a great photo opportunity as the children very often end up covered in flour,” said Turney.

There is also a popular Mounted Fancy Dress class with a parade of entries in the main ring on Sunday at 11.40am.

New for this year is are five horticultural classes covering floral art, a marrow and a cacti class. They are open to anyone under the age of 16.

“That is not to mention the live animals you can come and see,” added Turney. “We have the third largest cattle parade in the country plus horses, llamas, sheep and gun dogs. “It really is a great day out for all the family.”
