Metropolitan Police arrested four suspects last night after a failed attempt to rob a security van outside Santander bank in Oxted.
The attempted armed robbery took place at around 8.30pm last night (Tuesday 14 June) and police confirmed that gunshots were fired at the suspects vehicle but no-one was hurt.
The operation was led by Flying Squad officers, supported by Surey Police, in a planned operation.
“A blue G4S van outside santander was the target,” said Lee Mcilwraith on Facebook. “A red car is outside which looks like the getaway car. Reports say police rammed the red car and shots were fired.”
Gill Steer added: “One was chased down the street by several men, cut off by a man with a motorbike who jumped off and stopped him at the corner by NatWest. Police with large weapons were walking up and down the street.”
The roads surrouning the station were closed off last night following the incident.
The reaction from on Twitter was one of surprise “Shooting in Oxted which doesn’t involve pheasants. I’m moving to london, this is mental,” tweeted @Mellons23.
And Pauline Yau (@paulineyau) added: “WTF? Gunfire in Oxted? Oxted? Seriously?”
