SMP to build new Whyteleafe playground

SMP Playgrounds has been appointed to design and build the new playground in Whyteleafe recreation ground by Tandridge District Council.

The Community Services Committee appointed SMP after its design came out on top in the public vote on four designs for the play area in Hillbury Road.

The public got to have their say at a consultation day in July and online votes were also counted.

The design will now be amended to reflect the comments and suggestions made by residents about the equipment.

Tandridge District Council is rebuilding the existing children’s play area at a cost of £100,000.  The existing site was installed in 1984 and is in need of refurbishment.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of the consultation,” said Councillor Tony Elias, chairman of the Community Services Committee.

“We received lots of constructive comments about the designs and they will help create a play area which reflects what the community wants.”

Consultation Day results:

  • SMP Playgrounds: 63 votes
  • Playdale: 23 votes
  • Wicksteed: 23 votes
  • Timber Play: 15 votes

Online consultation

  • SMP Playgrounds: 37%
  • Timberplay: 32%
  • Playdale: 20%
  • Wicksteed: 11%
